"Scrooge"

Thouroughly enjoyed a dramatic reading of "Scrooge" at St. David's Church on Franklin Street in North Hastings area last night. Five amazing actors captured the essence of A Christmas Carol, all in about an hour and with great drama and laughs. Hope you get a chance to partake in this annual event next year. This community church offers space for events such a this, everyone welcome! It is a very comfortable space to visit for all their general events, including a Christmas Eve mass at 10:30pm.

The Edward Curtis Project

I consider myself very fortunate to have been invited to the world premiere of The Edward Curtis Project, part of the Third Street Theatre Series presented by Presentation House Theatre in North Vancouver. This dynamic play, part of the Push International Performing Arts Festival, was written by Marie Clements, a very talented local Galiano Island playwright.

The Edward Curtis project had an intensity to it from the opening scene, yet was mixed with odd bits of humour throughout. The actors portrayed their characters wrought with emotion and left no doubt as to the intensity and struggles of those they were portraying.

As a local event planner and BC resident who encourages fellow British Columbians to celebrate the talents of those whom surround us, I highly recommend seeing this locally written play before it leaves Presentation House on January 31st, 2010. For more information, please visit www.phtheatre.org

Black Rock Oceanfront Resort Ucluelet

I have recently discovered the most lovely surprise, The Black Rock Oceanfront Resort, nestled upon the coast of remote Ucluelet, BC.

After staying there for a few days, I definitely recommend this as a couples retreat away from the hustle and the bustle of our busy lives.

After a long ferry ride and drive to the resort, we arrived to find it both stylish and comfortable on all levels. Our room was furnished with modern fixtures, a bathtub built for two (leave the kids at home), a large glass shower and most importantly, crystal wineglasses! The wineglasses sealed the deal for me as we were able to pour our wine into a real glass, sit down in front of the balcony (too cold to be outside in December) and relax watching the waves crash onto the rocky shore for hours until we realized it was time for dinner.

For dinner we chose to remain in Float lounge and try an array of appetizers along with a sampling of wine and perhaps a martini or two to accompany them. At this point, words leave me. We tasted perhaps some of the finest food we have ever tasted, and found ourselves ordering dish after dish as we could not believe that everything we ordered could possibly reach our rather high standards for flavour, presentation and originality. You would be remiss to not try the BBQ Buffalo "Fingers" accompanied with red onion marmalade and/or the Ginger Marinated Albacore Tuna, both perfectly suited for two people to share.

All in all, it was a fabulous experience and one I would denitely recommend. When booking, upgrade to the romance package, and upon your arrival discover a beautiful array of melt-in- your mouth sweets along with a bottle of B.C. Ice Wine placed in your room. FYI, wines are also available to purchase in your room at a reasonable price, which is quite lovely.

One warning though, if you are not an early riser you may want to bring a sleep mask. The sunrise is breathtaking even through the blinds, but not for those of us who wish to sleep in...

Sweet Cravings

Paid a visit today to Cocoa Lattes, my neighbourhood coffee house and met with Denise Brandon of Sweet Cravings. Denise stocks her feature showcase at Cocoa Lattes (on Queensbury just off Keith Road) with her delicious homemade cupcakes...too good to be true! For breakfast had a delicious, strong, foamy latte with one of Denise's freshly bakes citrus and current scones, dripping with hot butter. An absolute must for any day of the week...

Highly recommend contacting Denise for your specialty cakes (wedding, birthday, retirement...) or cupcakes (great for birthday parties of all ages - saves bringing the forks, plates, knives).

Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co.

Attended a wonderful NV Chamber of Commerce "Business After 5" event last evening at Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company in Lynn Valley. Sampled some delicious flatbread pizzas. They offer variety of other menu items as well, which hopefully are just as mouth watering.

Upstairs of restaurant featured a loft style open space for smaller events (60-70 people standing) with independent sound system. Direct access to 2nd floor of restaurant from private elevator in underground parking.

Cops for Cancer Community BBQ

Just wrapped up the 4th Annual Cops for Cancer Community BBQ in support of Canadian Cancer Society's "Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast".

This charity event organized for the 2nd year in a row by E-vent-ful Innovations raised over $4160.00 including pledges raised by Desiree (Auxiliary Member of North Vancouver RCMP Detachment) for her and her husband Ian's head shaves at the event. Thanks to all our donors and supporters: North Shore News, Lynn Valley Lions Club, Holly's Salons & Schools, Jordan Back (emcee) and the North Vancouver Detachment of the RCMP.

Big thanks as well to our loyal volunteers Heather, Bev and Carmen who helped make the event such a success!
